Medical Reasons You Might Need Rhinoplasty

There are a few medical reasons why you might need rhinoplasty surgery including:

  • To improve breathing
  • To correct a septal deviation
  • To widen nasal passages
  • To repair a broken nose
  • To repair damage to your nose from an accident or injury

Cosmetic Reasons You Might Want Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty can help improve the appearance of your nose by:

  • Reducing the size of your nose
  • Making your nose more proportional to your face
  • Changing the angle of your nose
  • Straightening the bridge of your nose
  • Recontouring the tip of your nose
  • Narrowing your nostrils

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

Dr. Hanick performs Rhinoplasty when you are under general anesthesia. Surgery usually takes 2 or 3 hours. Dr. Hanick is an expert at Rhinoplasty and has been trained extensively during her fellowship in Facial Plastic Surgery.  Dr. Hanick may reshape the cartilage and bone, or add or remove cartilage and bone, depending on the desired outcome.

Recovery From Rhinoplasty

After your rhinoplasty, you may experience some swelling and bruising around your eyes and over your nose. This is a normal side effect of surgery. Any post-operative pain can be managed with pain medication for the first few days after surgery.

What You Need To Do at Home After Surgery

You will need to use a nasal saline spray to keep nasal passages moist and prevent irritation. You will likely have to wear a external nasal splint and internal nasal splint while you are healing.
